A village with magic, hot spots and celebrities, and a town with stellar shopping and great restaurants - what’s not to love?
Home to the rich and famous, this area is nothing short of luxurious. The picturesque Alderley Edge and Wilmslow sit in the east of Cheshire and offer a fabulous range of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
Famed for being the champagne capital of Britain, Alderley Edge is the perfect place for a getaway. It is one of the most expensive and sought-after places to live in the UK outside central London. This vibrant village boasts a range of quality restaurants, trendy bars and even trendier boutiques. The Alderley Bar and Grill, the Bubble Room, Gusto, and Piccolinos are among the North West's most fashionable venues. With an extensive range of cocktails, beers, wines and champagne, The Bubble Room is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy good food and drinks with friends and family - it's also a favourite hangout spot for celebrities. But it's not all bubbly and caviar. You'll also find traditional bakers - like G. Wienholt Bakery, opened in 1949 on the site of the village bakery of generations' standing - a butcher, a specialist cheese shop and the monthly Alderley Edge farmers' market - for that quintessential village experience. The village is also home to Daniel Footwear boutique, this independent store boasts a wide range of leather goods - stocking bags, shoes, accessories and shoe care items for all shoe lovers!
We recommend the Alderley Edge Hotel for a comfortable and relaxing stay. It's also close to the heart of the village, London Road, where over the last few years some fantastic bars have popped up, including high street favourites The Botanist and Cheshire's own Victors.
After you explore Alderley Edge, hop on a quick three-minute train to Wilmslow - it can only be described as the shopper's paradise. This Cheshire town boasts everything a shopaholic desires, from designer boutiques and upmarket interior designers, to chic charity shops and the famous Hoopers department store - it's a small place with a big attitude. There is much more to Wilmslow than meets the eye, this town is a foodie haven. The Cheshire Smokehouse boasts an outstanding delicatessen, scrumptious patisserie, wine shop, and a café that serves sweet Saturday brunches. The Chilli Banana has been called the best Thai restaurant in Cheshire by its many loyal customers, and The Clink serves fabulous food cooked and served by the prisoners of HMP Styal.
Alderley Edge and Wilmslow are surrounded by countryside pleasures. Magic, myth and legend is the aura of The Edge. It is a wide red sandstone escarpment situated above the village of Alderley, perfect for hiking. Wrapped in tales of witches and wizardry, The Edge is a National Trust site with incredible views over the Cheshire and Derbyshire plains. To carry on the magic, head to the Wizards Thatch to explore the enchanting story of Merlin and spend a night like a medieval wizard. A must-see is the wizard's well, the carved head of a bearded man from which water trickles from the rock face of the escarpment into a stone trough, along with the inscription: "Drink of this and take thy fill, for the water falls by the Wizard's will."
If a gentle stroll is more your cup of tea, potter along the River Bollin through the picturesque parkland of The Carrs, in Wilmslow.
If you are visiting this area with your soul mate, why not opt-in for a relaxing massage at Alderley Thai Massage? This massage and beauty parlour's traditional Thai massage is guaranteed to relieve any tension, leaving you totally revitalised. To continue the romanticism, the newly re-opened Rex Cinema is another must. Situated in the heart of Wilmslow, it's an Art Deco dream. With luxurious interiors reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour and bottle service straight to your seat, Rex Cinema is the perfect date.
After you've feasted and shopped 'til you dropped, take in some social history with a visit to Quarry Bank Mill, one of the best-preserved textile mills of the Industrial Revolution. Built in 1784, it's still working and gives great insight into the lives of our forebears - then visit the mill owner's house and glorious gardens for a slightly different perspective!
Jam-packed with great restaurants and bars, stellar shopping spots, beautiful scenery and bursting with history and magic, this area ticks all the boxes!
