Manchester Stock Exchange building to converted into luxury boutique hotel

Former Manchester United stars Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs are behind the ambitious project.
The iconic Manchester Stock Exchange building, which ceased for financial trading in 1979, is to be re-opened as a luxury boutique hotel this November, by Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs. The duo have been joined in this venture by luxury hotelier Winston Zahra, who has brought all his experience and talent to bear on the creation of what looks set to be an utterly beautiful hotel with true Manchester spirit.
Gary Neville explains that their aim has been to revitalise one of Manchester's most outstanding buildings.
'From our point of view we didn't really have to do a lot in terms of working out what the concept was going to be, the building itself told us...it's absolutely wonderful and has such a rich history. When I see the building and learn its history, I feel like we're almost the custodians and guardians and protecting what Manchester has in that building.
'Most people familiar with the building will know of the domed ceiling above the old trading room floor, but there are many other original features that will not have been seen by many, such as fireplaces, vaults and stained glass windows. For us it was critical that this heritage was protected, and it now sits at the heart of what we hope will be an exciting new concept for Manchester.'
Designed with 40 rooms, including two signature suites and a stunning 3,500 square foot penthouse residence, plus a food and beverage operation overseen by chef Tom Kerridge, perhaps it's no surprise that for the first time in their history global hotel and restaurant fellowship, Relais & Châteaux, have added a hotel to their portfolio before its doors are even open.
Co-owner and GG Hospitality CEO Winston Zahra said: 'We are honoured to be the first ever Relais & Châteaux member in Manchester and one of the first properties in the 65 year history of the fellowship to become a member before its doors open. The values and foundations of Relais & Châteaux to protect and defend local arts of living are reflected in every detail of our offering and we are committed to preserving an important part of Manchester's heritage, while offering quality service in an exceptional setting.'
Gary added: 'The food and beverage is the second part of this project and will be run by Tom Kerridge. We're excited to bring Tom to Manchester, Tom's excited about coming to Manchester - he's a Manchester United fan so he's up here a lot already!
'The third part is the event spaces - we have The Vault, the old strong room in the basement and The Bank, a private dining space, both with menus designed by Tom.'
To close, Gary introduced the crest they have had devised for The Stock Exchange Hotel, which carries the words Pacto Fidelis - a contract of faith.
'These are the words on the original Stock Exchange crest a hundred years ago and it's really important to us. A guest is spending money with us and in return they get a wonderful service and we want that heritage and that feeling of quality to run through everything we do at The Stock Exchange.'
