Holly Moore, founder and director at Make Events Ltd, tells us what makes her business special.
What we do
We organise high impact events for businesses to integrate with their employee engagement strategy.
We design high quality, memorable events for private clients and we also offer a three tiered wedding planning and design service. We organise the entertainment, décor, flowers, lighting, props – anything and everything!
Who we do it for
We work with both corporate and private clients. For private clients we are able to create a completely unique event designed especially for their personality.
For corporate clients they want to ensure the event is executed to the highest standard, meets all their objectives and delivers return on investment. We have a great track record in this area, which is why 75% of our business is repeat, from clients that include LateRooms, Autotrader, Citation and McCann, to name a few.
What makes us special
Our team! Every single person is suited to the role they provide whether that’s logistics, admin, managing events or designing amazing parties and events.
When I started the business I knew I had to get brilliant people, remunerate them well, look after them and let them contribute ideas.

How we got started: After 15 years in the hospitality industry with nine of those working in events I decided to take the leap of faith. I love business development as well as events so it’s a perfect combination. Sitting in my little spare room, I made my own logo and just got on the phone. I always wanted a business, not just to be a party planner. I was lucky enough to win Fred Done - of Betfred - as one of my first clients, which really gave Make Events credibility early on.
Business person I most admire:
I am a huge Tony Robbins fan and listen to his CDs as I drive a lot and don’t like
The Secret of our Success
Customer service - I have two sayings that the team live by ‘it doesn’t matter how much we are paddling under the water the client will never see it’ and ‘be a dog with a bone, while we are waiting for suppliers to get back to us our client is waiting even longer’. Fred Done told me once: “if you mess up and it costs you, take the cost, don’t let your customer know.” The team know that if there is a problem they just need to solve it and as long as they do that, I will back up the process or cost behind it.
My business philosophy You can’t do it on your own. Put your own vanity to one side and get people that will be as good as you - if not better. It doesn’t weaken your position, it makes you stronger and you can’t grow a business without magnifying and replicating what you brought to the business in the first place.
When I am not working I like to
Go to the gym! That sounds boring but Make Events is only 2.5 years old so I am committed to most of my time being spent on the business for the first 5 years. It keeps me sane and I get to see a bunch of positive people in the morning, have a good laugh and a work out before the day begins.
The next move
Continue to grow the team with a relationship manager and develop our private and wedding business. I would love to invest in a purple camper van with Make Events written all over it – but my business
advisor keeps bringing me down to reality!
