It seems Brits are going early this year, with more than 50% of us putting up our Christmas decorations before the start of December
A new survey has revealed that 1 in 5 Brits already have their Christmas tree up, and a further 33% will have their festive decorations up before the end of November.
Data commissioned by NetVoucherCodes.co.uk shows that after a shocking year, thousands of households are choosing to embrace the festive spirit early. Indeed, 53% will have their decs up before the 1st of December. This compares to 21% of people from a similar survey undertaken in 2016.
The desire to have that Christmas-come-early feeling as soon as possible has been reflected in Cheshire too, says Adele Gregson, owner of The Christmas Decorators, who has seen a 50% rise in demand for their services this year.
Adele said: “We have seen a sharp downturn with our regular hospitality clientele but this has opened up opportunities for different types of businesses and homeowners to use our services. As we are contractors, we are not affected by lockdown restrictions and can still visit people’s homes and businesses to install decorations. We are ensuring that our installations are only done by two people where possible, in full PPE, and residents and staff at businesses must stay in other rooms while we install.
“We’ve been asked for spectacular ice-skating rinks on the lawn, social-distance-friendly-heated-marquees, carousels, huge snow globes – the requests this year so far are incredible, and we love a challenge. It’s very encouraging that both businesses and households have spare budget to make this Christmas extra special.
“Even those with less fantastic demands and more modest budgets are spending on decorating services this year because the Covid crisis has changed their priorities and they want to provide the most exciting Christmas for their families. It’s been such a terrible year and it’s made us appreciate family and being together because we’ve not always been allowed to do it, so people are just embracing it.”
Adele, who creates festive wonderlands for many of Cheshire’s resident celebrities, including Real Housewives of Cheshire Nicole Sealey and Hanna Kinsella, and Celebs Go Dating star Charlotte Dawson, spent her lockdown March-June dissecting the Christmas Decorators operation, which has been running for eight years, adapting and growing it to ensure that the model works in a more restrictive way of living and to make her professional festive decorating service more accessible and affordable for regular families.
Adele adds: “We wanted take on the Covid crisis as a slightly different business. We felt strongly that we wanted to open up our services to attract residential clients and changed our products and pricing policies accordingly.
“We have invested heavily in additional outdoor trees, as this is crucial for care homes and other settings with vulnerable people who may be shielding, as well as increasing our stock of other decorative items such as giant nutcrackers and stars. We are only taking UK bookings this year due to travel restrictions and we want to ensure our workforce is safe. We have expanded the team by 50% so that we can ensure that the additional demand from our new residential customers can be fulfilled and we’re very excited to have new talent on the team as we grow the business for 2021.
“From what I can see, the feeling this year is that there’s nothing we can do about what’s going on in the world, but whatever happens, we’re doing Christmas and we’re going to do it amazingly.”
