Camping ain’t what it used to be, at least not for the new generation of festival goers

Of course, when I say ‘new generation’ I actually mean old generation, my generation. Those of us who hit our perfect stride back in the 80’s and are now reliving our youth at festivals such as Rewind North, where we can dance the days and nights away to the most iconic tunes of our teenage years and then retire to positively sumptuous accommodation. It’s canvas, but not as you know it!

Rewind Festival director David Heartfield knows all about how to give the new festival goer a good time. Not only does he lay on an astonishing collection of once big name bands (Tony Hadley anyone? Level 42? Midge Ure?) but also provides a range of accommodation options so tempting one might decide to head there regardless of the music!

“We ran our first Rewind Festival in 2009,” says David. “At that time we followed the usual approach of offering straightforward camping option; pre-erected tents or bring your own, plus a single more upmarket option – or glamping, as it came to be known.

“The demand for this option drove us to increase the offering year on year, and now hot showers and a pamper parlour, with electricity for hair-dryers and phone charging, are the basic minimum our glamping guests expect.

“Rug flooring, Egyptian cotton sheets, fluffy towels, duvets, loungers, sofas…the options are endless and glampers can ensure they’re never far away from a spot of luxury!”

Camping? Not likely. It’s Glamping all the way for me darling!

  • I couldn't agree more with the sentiment of this article! I love the great outdoors but I also like comfort and luxury and never want to feel like i'm slumming it. My top tip is that whilst bedding rolls look lovely and are ideal used outside as day beds, they aren't comfy enough for nighttime use. I use a double height kingsize airbed together with cotton sheets and a goose down duvet...I think I actually sleep better in my flower covered bell tent than I do when at home!
