All Star Lanes Restaurant and Bowling Alley, Manchester

I remember back in the day when I’d go to the local bowling alley with my family. We used to laugh so much as we made fun of each other as we attempted to do the most outrageous “leg flick” possible.
I was hyped for All Star Lanes, the idea of bowling in the City Centre made me extremely excited. There had also been reports that superstar singer Rihanna had visited the venue whilst on tour in Manchester. So, if it’s good enough for Ri Ri, it’s good enough for me!
As I entered the venue I was impressed by the stylish bar area. The ideal place for casual drinks after work and perfect for cocktails on a weekend. Leather booths lined the room, which is great for groups of friends. And there are hidden coves with comfy chairs for love birds who want to sip and share an 1850’s style “Pisco Punch”
With an extensive drinks menu, you will never be stuck for a slurp here. The “Elvis Shake” instantly attracted my attention – peanut butter and strawberry jelly topped with crispy bacon. Sounds bizarre I know, but the fusion of flavours is immense. I was pleased to see American classics like root beer and coca cola floats on the menu. For £30 you and your mates can share “The Ball” – a cocktail of Jack Daniel’s, Grand Marnier, maple syrup, blueberries, lemon and apple juices, all served in, yep you guessed it......A BOWLING BALL!
So with the drinks getting a big thumbs up, it was time to move into the dining area. As I went through from the bar I wondered if the atmosphere would continue. It did! There seemed to be a great buzz around the place. Simple, yet trendy and stylish. The place to be.
I picked popcorn squid for my starter. It was absolutely delicious. Served in a mini popcorn box, with a side of tartar sauce, the small pieces of squid were covered in batter and fried. The attention to detail was fabulous. The presentation of this dish was unique and creative and showed me that All Star Lanes took great pride in their attention to detail.
For my main course I opted for the American classic, a hamburger. Some money from this dish goes towards local charity Forever Manchester, (forevermanchester.com) a charity supporting local people and groups in the area. The charity helps to raise money to create positive change within struggling neighbourhoods. I thought this was a nice touch and hammered home that I was somewhere that gave off a community vibe. To my delight they asked me how I wanted my burger cooked. I knew then I was dealing with fresh, home-made food. The meat was tasty and succulent. The burger was served with chunky chips and a vast array of condiments.
The vegetarian options were terrific. The macaroni cheese and veggie burgers went down a treat in my party. It’s good to know that nobody is forgotten and everyone is catered for at All Star Lanes.
My dessert of cherry pie and ice cream was exquisite. The waitress asked if we wanted this served at the lane so that we get bowling underway. There were seating areas for each lane, these were incredibly spacious and comfortable. It is worth noting that you can also enjoy delicious snacks like chicken wings whilst at your lane. Perfect for if you get a bit peckish.
There are 8 lanes in the main hall. This isn’t your bog standard arcade bowling alley. It is luxury bowling. I got the impression that whenever anybody arrived they were blown away by the set up.
Prices start from £5.95 depending on what time you go. The music choice was popular with everyone. I found myself dancing down the lane!
There are various competitions like ‘King Pin’ on a Friday, where if you get a strike when the front pin is lit red you win a bucket of beers. It’s always worth keeping an eye on the All Star Lanes website too as they have various offers on all the time.
They even sell socks (£1 a pair) thank goodness, as I had to purchase some! I didn’t think to pop some in my bag when putting on my heels, but All Star Lanes have got it covered. That’s how my whole experience felt, covered and in safe hands.
All Star Lanes was a five star experience, the staff were all stars, and I ended up feeling like a star – especially because I won!
