Manchester-based musicians showed their support for the new We Love MCR charity by performing at its launch at the Museum of Science and Industry.Swing Out Sister and Rowetta were among those giving the thumbs up to the campaign on an evening which saw Forever Manchester and Reclaim presented with cheques totalling 8,865.

The donation comes from profits made from the sale of I Love MCR T-shirts following the August rioting.Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester said:The I Love MCR campaign encapsulated the strong sense of pride that Mancunians have in their city and it is fitting that it will live on as the We Love MCR charity.

We have a real opportunity to ensure that the legacy of summer 2011 is a positive one, when the people of Manchester stood together against anti-social behaviour.

Marketing Manchester is adopting We Love MCR as its official charity. It aims to donate 10,000 within the next year. Fred Done, of the betting shops, pledged 100k to the charity.

Corinne Drewery of Swing Out Sister said they were delighted to perform at the event: Swing Out Sister were made in Manchester, so it seemed like a good combination to perform songs that were made in Manchester, at The Museum of Science and Industry surrounded by great inventions, all made in Manchester.

It made perfect sense for us to support We Love MCR!We were performing in front of The Baby, the worlds first computer - thats probably the most unusual gig we have ever done.

We are so lucky to be a part of this great city, and so felt honoured to be asked to contribute to helping a cause to make Greater Manchester even greater. To join the campaign visit: www.facebook.com/WeLoveMCR
