A Red Cross gala ball celebrating 12 years was held at the Midland Hotel, Manchester. Some 60,000 was raised on the night which entertained over 300 guests. The main sponsors were Begbies-Traynor, a leading business consultancy firm.

Paris at Christmas time was the theme of the Childrens Adventure Farm Trusts 12th annual ball at Mere Golf and Country Club. Ex-Coronation Street stars Lee Boardman and Jennifer James were among the guests which also included Sally Lindsay. A fantastic 160,000 was raised by the occasion.

Irish-themed family night, St Mary's Parish Centre, Levenshulme

Head teacher Anne Scanlon and assistant teacher Louise Keegan from All Saints' Catholic Primary School in Sale staged a sell-out Irish-themed family night at St Mary's Parish Centre in Levenshulme. The pair, who are hoping to go to Africa next year to build social housing, raised a magnificent 976 of the 8,000 they need for the project.
