Angela Quayle is an interior designer who offers a little extra...she also creates unique, individually crafted furniture, which means her clients can experience the luxury of bespoke, one piece at a time. Marie Easom writes.
Angela discovered her flair for interior design when renovating her first property: ‘There were a lot of things I had to put right.’ she laughs, ‘but it just came naturally to me.’
She took her passion and made it her profession, training first in interior architecture and immediately afterwards in interior design. Studying at a prestigious Chelsea interior design school, Angela absorbed London’s subtle luxurious style, which she brought home to Cheshire and, in 2014, set up her sumptuous boutique showroom on Altrincham’s historic Old Market Place.
Angela ensures that every client’s experience is special: ‘Our values are driven by the modern definition of luxury, which is no longer defined by expense but by quality craftsmanship, uniqueness and the overall experience.
‘Working with an interior designer is a lot simpler than people imagine; there is something for everyone. My job is to find out how you really live your life and how we can enhance your space to make your experience at home better and more supportive of your life within it. All of this comes before choosing and selecting products, furnishings and accessories.
‘I like to see my projects as collaborations with the client. It is a privilege to be able to assist someone in creating their dream home. Being client focused means that you actually get to know them and you know instinctively what they’re are going love.’ A major project at a Victorian apartment in Bowdon is nearing completion: ‘It is stunning. I am delighted with the results and really proud of what we’ve achieved together.’
Angela has a trusted team of contractors and suppliers who support her: ‘I demand perfection,’ she explains. ‘It’s important to have the right people around you. I have a great team now who know what I expect.’
As with all projects, almost all of the pieces Angela installed in the Bowdon apartment are bespoke. The increase in demand for made-to-measure furniture has inspired Angela’s new upholstery collection, which will soon be showcased in her boutique showroom.
‘A sofa is one of the major purchases for your home,’ she explains, ‘but people need more than the routine choices available on the high street. This is what drove me to develop my new collection. I wanted to make the bespoke experience available to everyone, not only full interior design clients.
‘The options are truly endless. Clients can choose from a huge range of fine fabrics and finishes and select the exact colour and hue, size, height, filling and detailing. This means the furniture perfectly fits their space, tastes, lifestyle and budget, so there’s no need to compromise.’
A visit to Angela’s showroom in Altrincham is an exercise in inspiration, as you discover not only how simple it is to have exactly the sofa or chair you want, made to measure for the room you want it in, but also Angela’s edit of luxurious lighting and accessories – the perfect finishing touch or very special gift. I can’t help but realise that the process of being involved in the design of your new furniture imbues it with more value than any piece chosen from a vast furniture warehouse could ever have, meaning it will be loved, and will last, for many, many years to come.
Now, that’s design for life.
